HOW TO FIX "THERE WAS A PROBLEM PLAYING" YOUTUBE PPROBLEM
This is a common problem , especially when you are using a VPN or Ad-blocker. These apps may block your proxy ports that YouTube connects to fetch video from the server. Or, there my be other reasons behind this . Sometimes even the video from the websites or other apps doesn't play. I may not be sure for the reasons why you are having the problem but here I searched around the internet and gathered some of the solutions for "How to fix the YouTube problem 'there was a problem playing touch to retry'.

SOLUTION A: Restart Your Phone
The problem might be happened due to the phones connectivity with the app. Sometimes it happens , what you just need is to restart your phone and try to use the app back again. This will solve your problem most of the time . Even when your audio and video in the YouTube app is not synchronizing, you can restart your phone simple to solve it.
SOLUTION B: Disable Adblocker and Vpn
As I discussed earlier using VPN or Adblocks can block your proxy that youtube uses to fetch the video and you might not be able to play the video, you should be blocking the disablinng the Ad-blocker or the VPN app while playing the YouTube video. This might solve your problem.
SOLUTION C : Clear Data
All of the apps on your Android smartphone saves your activity details , or login credentials and many more. Sometimes, if you have anything wrong with the saved info or data , then the app might not work. So , try to delete the data files and open the app. To do this navigate to Settings >> Apps >> Your App >> Clear Data . In marshmallow and above the interface may be different . Go to the storage tab , there you will see the clear Data option.
SOLUTION D: UNINSTALL UPDATES AND REINSTALL IT
YouTube is a default app that comes while you get your new phone. Its not possible to uninstall it without rooting . You can only install and uninstall the updates for it. So , if your current update is showing the error "There was a problem playing. Touch to retry." Then, simply uninstall the updates.
To uninstall the updates go to System >> Apps >> All >> YouTube and tap the UNINSTALL UPDATES . This will uninstall your latest updates and keep the factory version of the app. Then try to open the app and playing video after restarting, this might help..
SOLUTION E: WIPE CACHE
This is the final and most working method that you can use . To wipe cache partitions press the VOLUME UP + HOME + POWER buttons all the same time and HOLD THEM DOWN. release only the POWER button when the device vibrates. release the other buttons when the ANDROID SYSTEM RECOVERY screen appears. using the VOLUME DOWN / UP buttons to navigate, select WIPE CACHE PARTITION.
